Regular Meeting
August 14, 2023
The Farmerville Town Council met in regular session at Farmerville Community Center, located at 407 South Main Street, Farmerville, Louisiana, August 14, 2023. The council members present were Mayor John Crow, Alderman Robert Allen, Caroline Gatson, Ricky Johnikin, Kerry Hill and Thomas Nation.
The roll was called and with a quorum present Mayor Crow called the meeting to order and invocation was offered by Keith Jeselink.
On motion by Gatson, seconded by Allen and unanimously approved to add items No 08 - Police Department Vehicles and item No 9 to Authorize mayor to sign CEA for Watershed Grants.
As state law requires, Town Clerk, Gay Nell Pepper, offered the public the opportunity to voice their opinion on all agenda items at this time. There were no comments.
On motion by Gatson, seconded by Johnikin and unanimously approved to approve the minutes from
July 10, 2023, regular meeting.
On motion by Allen, seconded by Nation and unanimously approved to approve the payables from July, 2023.
On motion by Gatson, seconded by Johnikin and unanimously approved to accept the monthly revenue and expenditure report for June as presented.
On motion by Allen, secondede by Nation and unanimously approved to approve a Class “B” Retail Beer License for Family Dollar Store after the necessary paperwork is received.
On motion by Hill, seconded by Nation and unanimously approved to adopt Resolution No 06-23 setting millage rates for 2023.
On motion by Hill, secondede by Allen and unanimously approved to award contract for USDA Lift Station No 4 improvements to Don M. Barron Contractor with the lowest responsible bid of $268,405.
On motion by Gatson, seconded by Hill and unanimously approved to close the same streets around the courthouse for Mardi Gras on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
On motion by Gatson, seconded by Allen and unanimously approved to confirm the following action taken by the Farmerville Zoning Commisison:
1. To change the zoning for the property located at 696 E Water Street belonging to Donna B. Harris to B1.
2. To change the zoning for the property located at 105 Railroad Street belonging to Farmerville Jr. Chamber of Commerce to B1.
3. To change the zoining for the property located at 410 Bernice Hwy belonging to Carole Post Cox to B1.
4. To change the zoning for the property located at 411 Bernice Hwy belonging to James Brain Booth to B3.
On motion by Allen, seconded by Gatson and unanimously approved to purchase two refurbished Police Cars and add the amount to the police department budget and the increase the transfer from General Fund to Police Department by the cost of the vehicles.
On motion by Hill, seconded by Johnikin and unanimously approved to authorize the mayor to sign a CEA for all three Wtershed Initative Projects.
There being no further business to come before the council Mayor Crow adjourned this meeting the 14th day of August, 2023. Upon motion by Gatson, seconded by Johnikin and unanimously approved.
