February 12, 2018-Regular Meeting

The Farmerville Town Council met in regular session at Farmerville Town Hall, located at 407 South Main Street, Farmerville, Louisiana.

The Farmerville Town Council met in regular session at Farmerville Town Hall, located at 407 South Main Street, Farmerville, Louisiana, on January 8, 2018. The council members present were Mayor M. Stein Baughman, Jr, and Alderman  Jerry Taylor,  Caroline Gatson, Robert Allen, and Lavelle Maine. Councilman Ricky Johnikin was absent

 

The roll was called and with a quorum present Mayor Baughman called the meeting to order. 

 

At this time Mayor Baughman offered the public the opportunity to voice their opinion on all agenda items.

 

On motion by Maine, seconded by Gatson and unanimously approved to approve the minutes from the January 8, 2018, regular meeting.

 

On motion by Taylor, seconded by Allen and unanimously approved to approve the payables for January.

 

On motion by Taylor, seconded by Allen and unanimously approved to adopt Resolution No 02-18 pertaining to 2016/2017 LCDBG.

 

RESOLUTION NO 02-18

 

WHEREAS, bids for Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project(LCDBG FY 2016/2017)have been received and read aloud,

 

BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Farmerville, Louisiana does hereby accept the low bid offered for the construction of this project by 

JABAR Corporation for Base Bid of $375,054.10. 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said bid is accepted subject to confirmation by the Town’s project engineers, Meyer, Meyer, LaCroix & Hixson, Inc., as to the accuracy of said bid, the satisfactory receipt of all forms and information required under the contract provisions.

 

AND that the Mayor is hereby authorized to sign all contract documents required.

 

This Resolution being submitted to a vote, the vote thereon was as follows:

 

YEAS:  ALLEN, MAINE, GATSON, TAYLOR

NAYS:  NONE

ABSENT AND NOT VOTING:  JOHNIKIN

 

The Resolution is declared adopted on this the12th day of February, 2018.

 

On motion by Gatson, seconded by Maine and unanimously approved to approve the street closures of the streets around the Unio Parish Courthouse for the Union Black Heritage Festivities to be held on Saturday, February 17,  2018.

 

 

On motion by Taylor, seconded by Gatson and unanimously approved to authorize to take bids on improvements to the Owl Creek Fire Station.

 

At this time Mayor Pro-tem, Jerry Taylor introduced Ordinance No 01-18 pertaining to institutional rate for sewer.  A public hearing will be held to hear the views and opinion at the next regular council meeting on March 12, 2018. 

 

At this time Mayor Baughman appointed members to the “Public Service Committee.” The permanent members will be Alderman Ricky Johnikin, Supervisor of Public Services, Mike Allen and Karen Brown.  The other members of the committee shall service on a quarterly basis beginning January 1 with Robert Allen, March 1st Lavelle Maine, July 1st Caroline Gatson, and October 1st Jerry Taylor.  

 

On motion by Allen, seconded by Gatson an unanimously approve to approve the monthly budget report as presented. 

 

On motion by Allen, seconded by Maine and unanimously approved to approve the overtime of $6507.99  from January.

 

At this time Caroline Gatson appointed Elizabeth Lary to represent District “C’ on the Zoning Commission.

 

There being no further business to come before the council, Mayor Baughman declared this meeting adjourned this the 12th day of February, 2018, upon motion by Gatson, seconded by Allen, and unanimously approved.
